Handbound Books
Last quarter I took a bookmaking class taught by Graham Young. Learning to hand bind books is a big plus. The learning process definitely took some time but now I can add this to my skillset.

This book was made in Print Production class. The body copy was formatted in InDesign and the cover was designed in Photoshop. It was on display at the Art Institute’s gallery. The cover shows signs of some wear but the binding is still intact.

Tattoo Flash Electric Guitar
This guitar was a featured piece at the September 09 Artwalk at Printing.com. I love tattoos and I’ve got a couple myself. If you’re a tattoo enthusiast, you might recognize the imagery. I used Ed Hardy flash as reference and used black paint pens.
Watercolor Paintings!
Here I have a handful of watercolor paintings I’ve done for an upcoming sale to raise money for the student AIGA club at AiJax, Method 229. I enjoy painting and I don’t get to do it often. I would definitely have to say that Karen Kurycki and Brittany Norris are huge inspirations and I plan on painting a large piece in the near future. In the meantime, enjoy

Jack Nicholson Grid Painting
This one is an old one, but a good one! As an assignment for Color Theory last year, the objective was to use 2 colors plus black and white. In this case, I chose violet and yellow. I mixed those complimentary colors to make different values of grey. Some colors were produced through tinting and shading. Let’s just say, this took a long time to finish, but the result is nice!
Photoshop Image Manipulation – Gimme MUSCLES
I’m a huge fan of bodybuilding. I used a photo of Dennis Wolf (pro bodybuilder from Germany) and superimposed my face. Below is an example of some image manipulation done in Photoshop CS3. Very simple masking of layers were used to achieve this effect. The hardest part was taking a picture with similar lighting that matched the original. Let’s face it, advertising uses a lot of image manipulation. You never know if what you’re looking at is real or not.

AIGA Always Summer Poster Show
AIGA Jacksonville presents this exhibit reflecting diverse disciplines of design emphasizing illustration, typography and printing techniques. Participants are asked to pick their favorite summer song and turn it into a piece of art in poster form. [aigajacksonville.org]
The song I chose was Seek ‘N’ Strike by SOULFLY [Video]. I think it was the only metal song in the show! \m/

September Artwalk
My classmate, Mitch Kelly, and I had the opportunity to be featured at Downtown Jacksonville’s Artwalk at the Printing.com office. We both had several pieces of art that included paintings, an installation, drawings, screenprints, a digital slideshow, handmade books and a painted guitar. Many thanks to the staff at Printing.com and the faculty at the Art Institute for making this happen!
